About Virtual PD: Self-Assessment

Committed to Education

My seminar class drove the development of this website. Differentiation was a critical focus. Based on surveys taken by teachers, I developed a virtual PD site that focused on getting students to self-assess their learning journey in all areas of their day. I would love the opportunity to work with you and continue to learn and develop self-assessments. Tomlinson (2014) best explains differentiation as incorporating content, process, and products based on student readiness, interest, and learning profile (p. 18). Fox and Hoffman tell that "motivating students is an essential part of differentiating" (p. 39). They share tips on motivating students, such as increasing intrinsic rather than extrinsic motivators, making sure students are ready to learn, provide frequent, early, and positive feedback (Fox & Hoffman, 2011, p. 39). By including self-assessments throughout various contexts of the day for a learner is essential.
